Bora Bora was made for Honeymooning

St. Regis Bora Bora BungalowsWhen we started thinking about our honeymoon, we knew that we wanted something special. A “once-in-a-lifetime” kind of honeymoon that we would remember forever. Of course Bora Bora was on the table immediately – it has been my dream destination for years. For us, it continued to remain a dream even when we got off the plane and boarded the private boat to take us to our hotel. It was still a dream when we looked on as our boat approached the St. Regis hotel. It was absolutely surreal to be driven by our butler in a golf cart around the resort, as he showed us the grounds. It wasn’t until we stepped into our, yes you guessed it, overwater bungalow that it finally hit us that we were no longer dreaming! I was awe struck as we sat on our deck, sipping our first (of many) glasses of champagne, looking out at the crystal clear water below us. Bora Bora was made for honeymooning.

Mount Otemanu view from the dockThe St. Regis Bora Bora is a resort that knows how to not only cater to its most demanding guests, but also to spoil them rotten. From the moment you step into the Bora Bora airport, the pampering begins. Our host greeted us at the dock (you heard correctly, there are no roads or taxis, just docks and boats here), with a cold towel and an Evian. You can forget about lining up for your suitcases here – our suitcases were brought on board by the staff as we got our first glimpse of Mount Otemanu. The St. Regis boat, by the way, is one of the most impressive hotel boats at the dock, it cannot be missed! When we arrived at the hotel, a short 10 minutes later, a warm welcome from hotel staff awaited us on the dock. Once again, no line up to check in – each guest received a personal butler who took care of their check in and provided a tour of the grounds. Its as if the St. Regis took away all our travel pet-peeves!

St. Regis Bora Bora Welcome

One of the reasons we chose the St. Regis is because of their amazing bungalows. For starters, they are about 1500 square feet, equipped with a separate living room area, a bedroom and a two-tier deck. On the deck there is a table for outdoor dining, two lounge chairs, and a lower deck. The layout of the bungalow is perfect, because the bed faces the deck, which really just means that you can see the gorgeous crystal water right from your pillow. The washroom has a sliding window, which can be opened in case you want to enjoy the same view while you take a shower. Someone really thought this through. To get around the resort, you have the option of calling for a pickup in one of the golf carts or using the resort’s bikes. More on that – the St. Regis doesn’t bother with the commonly annoying sign-out systems for anything on the resort – bikes, snorkeling gear, and even towels are all free for your use without hassle. For someone who hates the towel cards system, this was something I really loved. I also really loved the bottle of champagne that awaited us in our room upon arrival – perfect start to our honeymoon!
